			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.everythingcounts.com/Talk/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/pride-hope-glory_2.jpg" alt="pride-hope-glory_2" title="pride-hope-glory_2" width="250" height="250" class="left" />There&#8217;s an old story about a man who walks by a construction site and sees workmen pushing wheelbarrows, each filled with an enormous stone.</p>
<p>He asks one what they&#8217;re doing.</p>
<p>&#8220;What does it look like?&#8221; he says with a sneer. &#8220;Hauling rocks.&#8221;</p>
<p>Unsatisfied with that answer, the passerby asks another construction worker the same question.</p>
<p>The workman doesn&#8217;t bother looking up. &#8220;We&#8217;re putting up a wall.&#8221;</p>
<p>Frustrated, the man tries one last time. &#8220;I say there,&#8221; he asks the next fellow, &#8220;can you tell me what you men are doing here?&#8221;</p>
<p>The workman puts down his wheelbarrow, wipes his forehead and says with a broad smile,<strong> &#8220;We&#8217;re building a cathedral.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Here are three men, all doing the same job. One is hauling rocks. One is putting up a wall. One is building a cathedral.</p>
<p><strong>This story says a lot about the attitude that each of us brings to our lives&#8230; or could if we were willing to change our perspective.</strong></p>
<p>My primary occupation, for example, is creating and distributing advice / information. One reason I write is to meet my overhead and put food on the table. To that extent, I&#8217;m hauling rocks.</p>
<p>A greater objective is to build a publishing and media business. The more successfully we market ourselves, the more people we attract, the better our business performs. To that extent, I&#8217;m<br />
putting up walls.</p>
<p><strong>But the real objective of my creating and distributing advice is to help people throughout the world to achieve and maintain high levels of performance excellence. When I stay focused on that, I&#8217;m building a cathedral. </strong>(And, not incidentally, meeting my lesser goals, as well.)</p>
<p><img src="http://www.everythingcounts.com/Talk/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/pride-hope-glory_1.jpg" alt="pride-hope-glory_1" title="pride-hope-glory_1" width="320" height="216" class="right" />Idealists will counter that achieving and maintaining high levels of performance excellence has nothing to do with building cathedrals. They are mistaken.</p>
<p>You can improve yourself, voice your opinions, or organize around a cause without a commitment to excellence. But you won&#8217;t effect much change in your community &#8211; or build an actual cathedral &#8211; without it.</p>
<p>Contrary to what some believe, performance excellence isn&#8217;t about &#8220;showing off nor showing up the other guy.&#8221;</p>
<p>Excellence is about pride, high-standards, and healthy self-esteem along with a commitment to being the best you can be. It liberates you from the crowded field of mediocrity allowing you to stand out, rise up and shine bright!</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t reach your potential or live life to the fullest if you spend your days making excuses, having or accepting low standards, and doing just enough to get by. No one can attain greatness by demonstrating mediocre behavior nor accepting it from the people they surround themselves with.</p>
<p>A commitment to performance excellence in every area of your life is the great equalizer. It doesn&#8217;t matter if you&#8217;re a man or woman, black or white, young or old, handsome or homely, educated or not.</p>
<p>If you focus on excellence, and never make an exception, you will find in short order that the<strong> cream ALWAYS rises to the top.</strong></p>
<p>Performance excellence is freedom, security and peace of mind. It allows you to inspire and help others, to do and be what you want. It enables you to follow your dreams, to spend your life the way you choose on your terms.</p>
<p>A commitment to excellence gives you dignity. It gives you choices and fills you with immense pride. That&#8217;s why every man and woman has the right &#8211; and I believe the responsibility &#8211; to pursue excellence and to become their very best.</p>
<p>When my advice empowers people, when it gives them direction, comfort, hope and peace of mind, I feel good about my work. I&#8217;m building a cathedral.</p>
<p>You can apply the same line of thinking to whatever you do.</p>

<p>This is my Quest: to follow that star!<br />

<p><strong>Wise Men follow a star when they believe the destination will be worth the journey.</strong></p>
<p>Time and money: you can always save one by spending more of the other.</p>
<p>But money can be replaced and time cannot.</p>
<p>We spend the hours of our lives like a pocketful of pennies, one by one until they are gone.</p>
<p>What are you buying with yours?</p>
<p><strong>Can you name your current journey?</strong></p>

<p>You can call it your 5-year plan, your business plan, your goal, your mission.</p>
<p>You can dress it up with numerals and call it a pro forma or wrap it in legalese and call it a prospectus.</p>
<p>All that really matters is that you understand your time, your energy, indeed the hours of your life are being spent in the pursuit of something.</p>
<p>&#8220;And I know, if I&#8217;ll only be true to this glorious Quest, that my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I&#8217;m laid to my rest&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>Wait a minute&#8230; are we talking about business goals, life goals, or the Broadway musical of 1966?</p>
<p>Yes, yes, and yes; we are talking about those.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s the thing about an archetypal story. Its message will echo through different actors dressed in different costumes but the play never changes:</p>
<p><strong>Each of us follows a star. How clearly can you see yours?</strong></p>

<p>The <strong>RIGHT OBJECTIVES</strong> are the fewest number of accomplishments, and  the least number of objectives you can determine that will allow you to reach your goals.</p>
<p>This is really at the heart of what it means to be a strategic thinker. It&#8217;s the core idea that makes your life efficient and profitable.</p>
<p>Think about it, what sense does it make to take fifteen steps, when only five will get you where you want to go?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You&#8217;ve no doubt heard the old saying;<em> <strong>&#8220;Give a man a fish and you  feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a  lifetime.&#8221;</strong></em></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s take a moment and examine both sides of this conversation.</p>
<p><img class="left" title="Fishing" src="http://www.everythingcounts.com/Talk/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/fishing-boy.jpg" alt="Fishing" width="240" height="240" />The metaphor of feeding someone and that sufficing to get them  through one day, and one day alone shows that people can ONLY be helped  so far.<br />
<strong><br />
No matter how you slice it, this is a restrictive, demeaning, and highly manipulating mindset that is fueled by a poverty mentality.</strong></p>
<p>Now, I&#8217;m aware that there are a lot of well intended people out their who want to help, however intentions are better focused on “helping people help themselves!”</p>
<p>If all we do is help people and do things for them all the time,  then they rely on us, which is not only unhealthy for their development  of skills, it also makes them psychologically weak, confidence deprived,  and quite literally puts their very future at risk.</p>
<p>The principle whereby we rely totally on the support, guidance, handout, and  even nurturing of someone else, for too long a period, is typical of far  too many governments, families and institutions.<br />
<strong><br />
To build a  rich, powerful, purposeful and sustainable business, family or society,  this &#8220;give a man a fish&#8221; nonsense has to stop!</strong></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s look at the flip side, where we &#8216;teach a man to fish&#8217;.</p>
<p>Not  only does the man become self-sufficient and becomes able to survive  without being provided for, but he has a sense of achievement and  fulfillment which is priceless.</p>
<p>How good does an angler feel as he pulls a fish from the water?</p>
<p>Much better than when one is placed generously in front of him, merely to eat.</p>
<p>Sure it may be good, for a while, to be provided for, but human psyche is bigger than that in a healthy human being.</p>
<p>People need to be valued for who they are and what they are capable of achieving.</p>
<p><strong>We help them best, when we &#8216;teach them HOW to fish&#8217;. </strong></p>
<p><img class="right" title="fishing-men" src="http://www.everythingcounts.com/Talk/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/fishing-men.jpg" alt="fishing-men" width="240" height="240" />By  teaching people life, money, and self-management skills, we validate  them for who they are and the contribution they are able to make.</p>
<p>By exposing them to best practices and challenging them to <strong> demonstrate a strong work ethic</strong>, their confidence grows as does their  contribution back to society.</p>
<p>They know they are useful and  valued and with this confidence they do more. They learn that to stretch  themselves is good. That they have within themselves untapped resources  which show off the potential they have always had, now released.</p>
<p>Indeed &#8216;teaching them to fish&#8217; realizes not just the material  potential they have, but<strong> catalyses even bigger capabilities</strong> in them.  Their development muscle has been stretched and exercised, so it becomes  bigger and more capable.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In this post, I have a few questions that I wanted to ask you and I am really looking forward to your replies.</p>
<p>It has to do with what I call personal constraints which are often defined as limitations or restrictions.</p>
<p><img class="left" title="restrictions_240x240" src="http://www.everythingcounts.com/Talk/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/restrictions_240x240.jpg" alt="restrictions_240x240" width="240" height="240" />You should be able to answer this pretty quickly.</p>
<p><strong>Question #1 </strong>What is the number one familiar behavior that holds you back from being successful but you keep repeating?</p>
<p><strong>Question #2</strong> What negative impact has this behavior had on your life?</p>
<p><strong>Question #3</strong> What specifically can and must you do differently to in order to ensure greater success?</p>
<p>Most people are oblivious to their primary constraint and as a result continue to repeat an ongoing cycle of unproductive behavior.</p>
<p>You on the other hand, if you can identify it, than you can immediately begin working to correct it and I&#8217;d like to show you how.</p>
<p>Identifying personal constraints is not usually an easy process. In fact, sometimes we have the most trouble self-assessing, which means that a close friend, spouse or colleague can be incredibly helpful.</p>
<p>Before you can overcome your personal constraints, you will want to understand these three principles:</p>
<p><strong>Principle #1 Everyone Experiences Personal Constraints.</strong></p>
<p>Some are inconsequential and some seem insurmountable. The primary constraints that people &#8220;OWN&#8221; have to do with self-confidence, self-control and maintaining effective relationships.</p>
<p><strong>Principle #2</strong> <strong>Constraints Control Your Results.</strong></p>
<p>The constraints set the ceiling of your performance as you can&#8217;t rise above constraints that you don&#8217;t or won&#8217;t address.</p>
<p>We are sometimes blind to our constraints, but we also tend to cling to some obvious constraints that stare back at us in the mirror &#8212; a common one being stubbornness.</p>
<p><strong>Principle #3</strong> <strong>Winners Have Fewer Constraints.</strong></p>
<p>Those with the least personal constraints&#8230;WIN.</p>
<p>You must understand that it&#8217;s not necessarily the most talented or the hardest working people who win but rather those who remove their most impacting constraints.</p>

<p>Physical or psychological pain is often the catalyst for becoming self-disciplined when it comes to exercise and healthy eating.</p>
<p>Financial pain such as burdening debt can be the catalyst for having the self-discipline to work when you&#8217;re tired or sick, or when you&#8217;d rather be out having fun.</p>
<p>Marital or relationship pain that comes from a lost love can give you the self-discipline to be a better partner when love comes your way again.</p>
<p>Do I really need to continue?</p>
<p><strong>Pain of any type is a powerful, empowering motivational factor in the change and goal achieving process.</strong></p>

<p>We&#8217;ve all heard the expression: Grow Up &#8211; Get Serious, but have you ever taken the time to really think of the impact and importance of those four words on your life.</p>
<p>One thing about successful people is that at some point in their life, each one has looked in the mirror and decided that once and for all they were done playing games, they were done settling for table scraps, they were done standing by idly on the sideline while other people that they did not perceive as being as bright nor as talented lived in nicer homes and enjoyed a better quality of life.</p>
<p>It was at that moment that they decided to get serious about being a mother, father, spouse, boss, teacher, leader or student.</p>
<p><strong>All the great ones have had this conversation. Have you?</strong></p>
<p>Have you honestly made the decision to get serious about your life, to stop blaming others, and to finally becoming the best that you can possibly be?</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a simple yes or no answer, one that is clearly demonstrated by your actions as behavior never lies.</p>
<p>Simply put, your behavior tells the world if you are serious or if you are just screwing around.</p>
<p>So what&#8217;s the answer?</p>
<p>The sad part is that far too many people take a casual and cavalier approach to life and have the audacity to complain and make excuses when things don&#8217;t go their way.</p>
<p>This is some sick kind and demented joke as these people are delusional if they think that they can really get ahead in life without getting serious about how they are going to use the precious and limited time they are given.</p>
<p>You can disagree strenuously with the following aggressive statements, but eventually you WILL come to the understanding that you have no choice but to accept them as reality.</p>
<p>You will become rich when you <strong><a href="http://www.goalsguy.com/Affiliate/tgg.php?id=824837_2" target="_blank">get serious about becoming rich</a></strong> and NOT a second sooner.</p>
<p>Until you decide to get rich by developing a plan and executing your plan consistently, you will forever remain in the situation you are in.</p>
<p>You will get in great physical shape only after you get serious about getting in great physical shape and NOT a second sooner.</p>
<p>Until you make the decision to get in shape you will continue to suffer the consequences of obesity, high cholesterol and poor fitting clothing.</p>
<p>You will enjoy a great marriage and a loving relationship only after you decide to get serious about having a great marriage and certainly not a second sooner.</p>
<p>Until you choose to build a loving, nurturing, safe and supporting relationship your relationship will remain as it currently is.</p>

<p><strong>Who you really are is defined by your behavior, not your words. </strong></p>
<p>When a person&#8217;s words and behaviors are not in sync, the result is fraud, hypocritical behavior.</p>
<p>The disconnect between what people say versus what they actually do steals trust, sends mixed messages, distorts reality, undermines clear communication, and creates doubt.</p>
<p>It negatively impacts all parties, the giver and receiver. The challenge we all face is to balance the spoken word with our actions.</p>
<p>I can tell you this with complete confidence, that by examining your behavior and results, I can see a clear picture of your commitment, I can gain an innate sense of your character, I can grasp a near perfect understanding of your beliefs, and I can most certainly see what you are really made of.</p>
<p><strong>Your behavior is a reflection of what you believe to be true about yourself. Your behavior tells me how you think, your behavior tells me how you talk about yourself even when no one&#8217;s around, and your behavior tells me what you do every single day. </strong></p>
