The Power of Above and Beyond

MANY OF US DREAM of being magically persuasive, to be able to enlist our co-worker to help us, our team member to support us, our customer to buy from us, our partner and friends to listen to us, and our kids to take out the garbage for us.

If you know the right words, if you know the right strategy, and if know how and when to deploy them…you can just about get anything you want with ease, speed and consistency.

Would you like to know those words, would like to know the one and only one strategy you need to open the floodgate of opportunity?

What would it mean to develop raving fans who remain loyal to you for life….what would it be worth if you knew how to influence people…to know how to get them eating out of the palm of your hands?

What you are about to learn is the simplest, easiest, most direct route to engender trust, respect, loyalty and reciprocity. There is NOT a close second.

So what is the key to success…what is the one thing you can do to persuade people that you are the one for the job?

What is the one thing a Politician can do to earn someone’s vote?

What is the one thing every kid can do to get their parents off their back? Immediately!

What is the single most potent strategy for creating a dominate competitive advantage?

The answer is as simple as it is profound….over-deliver by going ABOVE AND BEYOND EXPECTATIONS.

I told you it was simple…now let me explain why going the extra mile as a matter of standard protocol is profound.


Search wherever you will for a single sound argument against the principle of exceeding expectations by going above and beyond and you will not find it, nor will you find a single instance of enduring success which was not attained in large part by its application.

Delivering only what your customer expects will give you job security (maybe), but it won’t make you stand out.

And if you don’t stand out, you won’t get promoted, you won’t get the referral, you won’t get the repeat business, and you won’t get the lifetime loyalty, devotion and reverence you’re after.

In short, you can’t expect extraordinary results without consistently exceeding your clients expectations.

Sadly, most people spend their lives scheming, looking to do as little as possible…the bare minimum to get by.

Rather than play above and beyond by going the extra mile…the play BELOW AND BEGONE and then they have the audacity to expect superior rewards for inferior performance.

The masses are always foolishly on the lookout for a new gimmick, a shiny new performance hack, a shortcut…but the truth is, the quickest way to advance your career, to earn trust, to develop a world-class reputation and be first in line for new opportunity is by always going ABOVE AND BEYOND.

That’s a point worth repeating and tattooing on your brain…the quickest way to advance your career, to earn trust, to develop a world-class reputation and be first in line for new opportunity is by always going ABOVE AND BEYOND.

Over-delivering and exceeding expectations on what you customer wants (however you define customer) is the single best most powerful persuasion tool in your toolbox. You either get the importance of it, or you do not.

In the end, the customer is all you’ve got. Unless your business has disproportionate leverage or a monopoly, the customer has the final say as to whether to work with you or not. It’s for that reason why you have no choice (need) but to deploy this strategy.

Surprise, delight, love and care needs to be at the forefront of everything you do. Intent is all that matters and you need to show that. If your intent is pure, I promise you it will have an effect on your business, reputation, referral rate and bottom line.

And let’s be real. How many people and companies are actually going above and beyond expectation? Very few — which means this is a competitive advantage waiting to be pounced upon.


The distance between those who achieve their goals consistently, those who climb the ladder of success rapidly, and those who spend their lives and careers merely following others and eating their dust has everything to do with one’s ability to go above and beyond the call of duty.
